CONCORD, NC - Barber-Scotia College is proud to announce their new head basketball coach and athletic director, Finoy Perkins who was partly responsible for shaping and cultivating the Barber-Scotia College Basketball Program several years ago. Mr. Perkins is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned his BA degree in Business Administration.

Mr. Perkins comes to Barber Scotia College after four seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Operations Staff; part of the National Basketball Association. His duties included assisting with game day operations, accommodating both players and staff, and helping coaches before games. Additionally, he was a lead basketball summer camp instructor for the Memphis Grizzlies while working with the Grizzlies. He had the privilege to operate and lead Dwight Howard’s Basketball Academy for the last three years; its namesake is an 8-time All-Star and 3-time defensive player of the year, and lead the Orlando Magic to the 2009 NBA Finals.

Before taking his basketball skills to the National Basketball Association, Mr. Perkins coached one season at Riverdale High School under Coach Michael Voss where he was responsible for player development, game day preparation, academic monitoring and player relations.

Perkins was a college standout at Middle Tennessee State University where he was part of a program that won 114 games in 5 seasons along with 4 Conference Championships (2010, 2012, 2013, and 2014). In addition, his team garnered key wins against “Power 5 Universities” to include: UCLA, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

Perkins said, “I want to thank God for this opportunity to lead Barber-Scotia College’s Basketball and Athletic Programs. I also want to thank my family for raising me into the man I am today. My mother and father made many sacrifices for me to get this far in life, without them I wouldn’t understand the pursuit of happiness and hard work. I would also like to thank Dr. Melvin Isadore Douglass, President of Barber-Scotia College, and his administration for having faith in my ability to operate a quality program. It’s a blessing to lead a college team and direct an athletic program when you are under 30 years of age. Anything is possible when you put God first in all you do.”

Coach Perkins is currently recruiting players for the 2020-2021 season. All interested can email him at: fperkins@b-sc.edu.
