SALISBURY - Livingstone College’s Emergency Response Team is monitoring Hurricane Florence closely and taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of its students, faculty and staff.

While the path of Hurricane Florence and the impact it would have on this area is still uncertain, there is the possibility of heavy rains, flooding and tropical force winds.

Livingstone College’s Response Team has implemented the following plan:

• Optional evacuation for students effective at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.

• Livingstone College will be closed to students, faculty and staff Wednesday, Sept. 12, through Saturday, Sept. 15. Essential personnel should report to work.

• Class assignments will be posted on Blackboard for all students.

• In case of power outages, our food service department is making preparations to ensure students remaining on campus will have an adequate supply of food and beverages. Students who live off campus should stock up on food and water before the storm hits.

• Students remaining on campus should charge all mobile and electronic devices in case of power outages, and have flashlights and batteries handy. (Candles are not allowed in residence halls).

Students, faculty and staff can stay informed and receive notifications via the college’s emergency alert notification system. If your cellphone number or email address has changed since classes started, please update it with Public Safety, located in the Health Center.

Information will also be available on our website (www.livingstone.edu); on our official social media pages (@Livingstone1879 on Facebook and Twitter); and on our campus radio station WLJZ 107.1 FM.

Livingstone College will continue to monitor the weather pattern and any updates to this plan will be communicated through our alert system, website and on social media.
